NWP and the Kenya Innovative Finance Facility for Water (KIFFWA) have been awarded Sector Winners for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation at the P4G State-of-the-Art Partnership Awards.
P4G stands for Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 and focuses on accelerating pioneering market-based partnerships to build sustainable and resilient economies. The organisation invests in impact to deliver inclusive and tangible solutions to build better and greener to meet the United Nations’ SDGs and the Paris Agreement.
As sector winner for these awards, the NWP-KIFFWA partnership joins a network of over 50 public-private partnerships across critical SDG areas building and scaling the most innovative, collaborative solutions for a greener economy.
One of the existing partnerships is FINISH Mondial, a programme with NWP members WASTE, Amref Flying Doctors and Aqua for All as implementing partners.
On Thursday 21 October, NWP and KIFFWA will participate in the pitch event, in which we will address KIFFWA’s
- innovative approach taken
- results or impact realised
- self-sustaining business model for commercial scaling and replication
Based on the different sector winner pitches, the jury will select a Partnership of the Year winner. The winner will be announced at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow between 31 October and 12 November 2021.
KIFFWA was set up in 2016 by NWP with funding from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nairobi. It has been fully operational since 2018 when the organisational set-up phase was completed, with a dedicated local team and robust governance structure.
NWP and KIFFWA cooperate on a weekly basis to co-develop and finance promising early-stage, climate resilient water projects and businesses in Kenya that contribute to the SDGs, including SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
KIFFWA’s mission is to catalyse investment and growth of the water sector by providing financial and technical support to project developers and entrepreneurs, to a point that (commercial/private) investors are comfortable to step in and the implementation phase can start.
